ABOUT THE ROLE
D&J Civil is seeking an Estimator & Project Launch Manager to play a critical role in winning work and setting projects up for successful delivery. This is a hybrid role combining approximately 65% estimating and tendering with 35% project launch and pre‑construction activities. You will take projects from initial opportunity review through tender submission and into construction readiness, before handing them over to the delivery team. As the company continues to grow steadily, this role has a clear pathway to transition into a Pre‑Contracts Manager position, with the opportunity to build and lead a dedicated support team over time.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Estimating & Tendering (Approx. 65%)
* Monitor and manage the incoming pipeline of tender opportunities from multiple lead channels
* Prepare concise opportunity briefs for Directors to support go / no‑go decisions
* Review tender documentation, drawings, specifications, and contract conditions
* Undertake quantity checks and take‑offs, and detailed scope reviews
* Identify smart options for alternative proposal options, for example value engineering that would provide an edge over competitors and add value to our clients
* Conduct contract reviews and identify commercial, program, and risk exposures
* Prepare and propose departures, qualifications, and alternative methodologies where required
* Obtain and assess quotes from major suppliers and subcontractors
* Prepare first‑principles cost estimates using estimating software
* Identify risks, opportunities, and value‑engineering options
* Compile professional tender submissions and proposals
* Prepare detailed tender briefs for Directors outlining pricing, assumptions, risks, opportunities, and departures
* Ensure submissions are completed accurately and on time
Project Launch & Pre‑Construction (Approx. 35%)
* Act as Project Launch Manager once projects are awarded
* Manage contract prerequisites including insurances, securities, approvals, and early authorities
* Coordinate preparation of construction management plans and methodologies
* Assist with construction programming and early works planning
* Manage early procurement of major materials and long‑lead items
* Support Directors and engineers during early client engagement
* Prepare projects for a structured and efficient handover to the delivery team

ABOUT YOU
* Background in civil construction with strong commercial awareness
* Degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or similar
* Solid experience in civil estimating, project engineering, or pre‑construction roles
* Demonstrated experience reviewing construction contracts and preparing departures
* Confident working independently and managing multiple priorities
* Strong understanding of construction risk, sequencing, and cost drivers
* Clear and concise communicator, able to brief Directors effectively
* Proactive, organised, and solution‑focused
* Full working rights in Australia and Australian Work Experience
