About the role

Assistant Curators in the Anthropology & Archaeology Department support the development, documentation, management, and interpretation of the department's collections. They contribute to research and deliver public outcomes aligned to the WA Museum's Strategic plan and the departmental operational plan, working collaboratively within the Museum, and externally with source communities, partners, and other stakeholders.

About you

We are looking for a dynamic, self-motivated individual who loves working in a positive team environment, has a passion for museums and archaeology, enjoys a challenge, and wants to make a difference. You will have relevant qualifications in Australian Archaeology that will enable you to undertake a range of museum-related archaeological work around the State.

The successful applicant will be expected to:

* Assist with the routine documentation and management of Archaeology collections and data, and management of collection stores.

* Assist with research and development of public programmes, related particularly to exhibitions.

* Answer public enquiries, participate in special public events, and facilitate appropriate access to Anthropology and Archaeology collections and information.

* Knowledge and experience in the management of Archaeology collections, including the use of databases and spreadsheets.

* Demonstrated knowledge of Australian lithic materials.

* Experience in engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities on the sharing of stories, knowledge, perspectives and cultural information.

Eligibility to Apply

To be eligible for appointment, applicants must have a valid Work Visa (for fixed term appointments), or be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or have a visa to live and work indefinitely in Australia (for permanent appointments) at the time of application.

A current (within six (6) months) National Police Clearance Certificate will be required prior to commencement of employment, as per the Department's Police Record Screening Policy.

We also require the following:

* A current 'C' Class Drivers licence, or equivalent.
* Ability to undertake intrastate travel and/or fieldwork.
* Some after-hours work may be required on occasion.

Pool Recruitment

The Pool will be open for a period of 12 months from the day after the breach of standard claim period closes. Permanent, fixed term, full time, part time and casual appointments may be offered as vacancies arise; however, an appointment is not guaranteed.

Applicants found suitable in this Pool, may be considered for subsequent, similar vacancies with the WA Museum and the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism, and Sport for the duration of the Pool.
