The University of Notre Dame Australia is a private Catholic university with over 1,000 permanent staff providing an educational experience to over 12,000 students across Fremantle, Broome, and Sydney campuses, as well as clinical schools in Victoria and New South Wales.

About the school

The National School of Arts and Sciences is one of two National Schools in the Faculty of Arts, Sciences, Law and Business. The School is based on two campuses in Fremantle and Sydney. The School delivers a practical, ethical and industry-focused education in diverse areas of study such as the liberal arts, communications and media, counselling, psychology, social work, and science, with undergraduate and postgraduate programs on offer.

About the role

An academic sessional makes a substantial contribution to teaching programs at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The position requires the preparation and coordination of lectures, tutorials, and workshops, consultation with students, assessment marking, and attendance at meetings as required by the Course Coordinators and the Computer Science Discipline Head. The primary purpose is to deliver and manage assigned courses within the discipline area.

The school seeks expressions of interest from experienced academics with a passion for teaching. Teaching opportunities are available on a sessional basis in the Bachelor of Computer Science and Master of Computer Science programs.

We are looking for academic sessional staff with subject matter expertise in three or more of the following areas:

* Operating Systems
* Computer Architecture
* Computational Modelling
* Programming Languages and Compilers
* Computer Systems and Networks
* Artificial Intelligence
* Cyber Security
* Industry-aligned Projects

Key Responsibilities

* Teach foundational and advanced computer science courses in consultation with the Discipline Head.
* Contribute to the design and development of curriculum, incorporating contemporary advancements in the CS discipline.
* Provide consultation to students regarding weekly learning activities and assessments.
* Mark assessments and provide feedback as outlined by the Course Coordinators.
* Attend meetings as required by the Course Coordinator or Discipline Head.

Qualifications, skills & experience

* Possession of a doctoral qualification in computer science, or equivalent accreditation and/or standing.
* Knowledge and understanding of emerging technologies in computer science and related areas.
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
* Ability to deliver high-quality learning and teaching practices in multiple modes, including face-to-face and hybrid delivery.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to foster collegiality and empathize with students.
* Proven ability to prioritize tasks, manage workload, and meet deadlines in a busy educational environment.
* Teaching experience delivering computer science courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, incorporating new technologies and innovative teaching approaches.
* Strong networking skills and the ability to support the school's national and international positioning in computer science or related disciplines.
* Previous experience working in the tertiary education sector is desirable.
