**Position Title**:Paediatric Career Medical Officer**

**Classification**: CMO 1 - 2
**Salary**: $140,609 - $209,516 (Plus 11.5% Super)

**About the Role**

Canberra Health Services (CHS) is focussed on the delivery of high quality, effective, person-centred care. It provides acute, sub-acute, primary, and community‐based health services, to the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) and surrounding regions. More information can be found on the CHS website.

**POSITION OVERVIEW**:

- The Canberra Hospital is a major teaching centre for the ACT and surrounding regions and is strongly associated with The Australian National University Clinical School. The Department of Paediatrics at The Canberra Hospital provides general paediatric services to approximately 450 inpatients and 1000 outpatients each month. The Department is staffed by 13 Staff Specialists (11 FTE General Paediatrics, 2 Endocrinology, 1 Gastroenterology and General Paediatrics and 1 Respiratory Paediatrician), 3 VMOs, a general paediatric Senior Registrar, 10 Registrars and 8 Residents. The Canberra Hospital has 44 in-patient paediatric beds, 16 day stay beds and a busy 18 room outpatient department.
- The Department of Paediatrics is accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) and is a site for the RACP Fellowship clinical examinations.
- The Paediatric CMO position is a primarily clinical role with additional contributions to leadership and education. The CMO is expected to provide support and supervision to the junior medical staff. This includes administration/management duties, teaching, education and research, quality assurance and conflict resolution.
- Opportunities exist to be involved in research or quality improvement projects.

**DUTIES**:

- Under limited direction of the Clinical Director, you will have the following responsibilities:
**Clinical**:

- Provide competent and efficient clinical management of infants, children and adolescents within the department of Paediatrics in both outpatient and inpatient settings under the supervision of a Consultant Paediatrician.
- Work within a multidisciplinary clinical team.
- Maintain adequate and legible medical records.
- 4. Participate and contribute to the Department’s teaching program.
- Completion of hospital mandatory training in accordance with hospital guidelines
- 6. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

**Education/ Research**:

- 1. To participate in on-going professional development activities and to encourage similar practices in departmental staff.
- 2. Participate in the supervision, training and professional development of junior medical staff and medical students.
- 3. To contribute to the research activities of the Hospital, including Journal Club.
- 4. To support the education program for Junior Medical Staff including attending and participating in teaching and in providing protected teaching time for junior staff.

**Clinical Leadership & Risk Management**:

- 1. To participate in clinical and/or organisational committees as determined by the Department Clinical Lead.
- To support the evaluation of Hospital Services in relation to present and future needs and make recommendations to the Department as appropriate.

- Demonstrated enthusiasm for and abilities in teaching.
- Demonstrated commitment to further education and professional development.
- Basic computer skills.

**Position Requirements/Qualifications**:

- Be registered or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Be registered under the Working for Vulnerable People Act.
- Completion of the written and clinical FRACP Paediatrics examinations preferred.
- The successful applicant will need to be available for regular weekend and after-hours work.
- Proficient computer literacy skills, as you will be responsible for completing clinical documentation in the DHR and using other CHS IT systems.
