The City of Karrtha is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Building Services Assistant to join our Regulatory Services Team. This is an exciting opportunity to gain practical experience in building compliance, legislation, inspections, and customer service — all while being supported to progress towards your Building Surveyor Certificate of Registration.
About the Role
Working under the guidance of the Building Surveyor, you will assist in delivering the City's building functions and statutory responsibilities. This varied and rewarding role will see you:
* Assisting with the processing of building and swimming pool applications
* Supporting compliance inspections of buildings and pool barriers
* Providing professional advice to builders, architects, and the community
* Preparing reports and correspondence for compliance matters
* Liaising with Planning, Environmental Health, DFES, Building Commission WA and other stakeholders
* Contributing to high-quality customer service and continuous improvement initiatives
You'll develop practical knowledge of the Building Act 2011, Building Regulations 2012, National Construction Code, and other relevant legislation, gaining valuable industry experience every day.
What We're Looking For
We're seeking someone who is:
* Motivated to build a career in building surveying
* Interested in progressing toward Building Surveyor Registration (with support provided)
* Detail-oriented with strong organisational skills
* Confident communicating with a range of stakeholders
* Able to analyse information and apply legislation to real-world scenarios
* Proficient in Microsoft Office (experience with TechnologyOne or Synergy Soft desirable)
* A collaborative team player with sound professional judgement
* A current C Class Driver's Licence and National Police Clearance are required.
* Experience in local government or the building industry is desirable but not essential — we value enthusiasm, integrity, and a willingness to learn.
