About the role

Play a key role in shaping the future of Council’s built environment through expert facilities management and inspiring leadership.

We’re looking for a skilled and motivated Team Leader, Facilities to oversee building operations, emergency preparedness, and contract performance across Council’s diverse estate. This is a pivotal leadership role where your expertise in facilities management and ability to lead people will directly influence the safety, sustainability, and functionality of our built environment.

You’ll bring deep knowledge of facilities management, with a strong understanding of building performance, asset optimisation, and lifecycle planning. Just as importantly, you’ll be a proven leader—able to motivate, guide, and support a skilled team delivering repairs, maintenance, and support services across multiple sites.

This role involves managing significant contracts with a focus on accountability and service excellence, while advising Council leaders and influencing decisions that ensure the long-term integrity and sustainability of our estate.

Operating in a fast-paced, multisite environment, you’ll enjoy a high level of autonomy and the opportunity to collaborate across departments. While supported by the Manager Facilities and Workplace, your leadership will be central to driving operational success and strategic impact.

Why join Team Melbourne?

Located on the traditional lands of the Bunurong Boon Wurrung and Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung peoples of the Kulin Nation, Melbourne is globally recognised as one of the most liveable, diverse, and dynamic cities.

At the heart of it all is the City of Melbourne – a passionate, purpose-driven organisation where your work truly matters. As part of Team Melbourne, you’ll help deliver what’s most important to the people who live, work, study, visit and invest in our great city.

We’re proud champions of diversity, committed to continuous improvement, and driven by a shared vision for a vibrant and sustainable future.

This is more than just a role – it’s your chance to make a real impact, contribute to something bigger, and shape Melbourne’s future alongside a team-oriented and forward-thinking team.

About you

You’re a seasoned professional with 5+ years experience in facilities management and strong track record in delivering high-quality outcomes across complex, multisite environments. With extensive experience in building operations, asset management, and contract oversight, you understand what it takes to maintain safe, sustainable, and high-performing spaces.

Your leadership style is proactive, supportive, and results-driven. You know how to bring out the best in your team - motivating, mentoring, and guiding them to deliver exceptional service. You’re confident managing competing priorities, navigating emergency situations, and driving continuous improvement in facilities operations.

You’re also a strategic thinker who can engage with stakeholders across all levels of Council, providing expert advice and influencing decisions that shape the future of our built setting.

What your experience might look like

- Extensive facilities management technical expertise and/or tertiary (Engineering, Facilities Management) or trade training in at least one area relevant to Building Services (e.g. HVAC, Electrical, Hydraulic, Fire).
- Extensive staff management and leadership experience with the ability to motivate, coach and develop a high-performance team, committed to customer service.
- Highly developed written and oral communication skills, together with the ability to liaise, consult and negotiate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Proven experience effectively managing issues within a highly political and complex environment
