About The Role
The Endocrinology Department at Canberra Hospital is the tertiary referral centre for endocrinology in the ACT and surrounding areas of NSW. We provide outpatient and inpatient care to people with a wide range of endocrine conditions, including pituitary disorders, thyroid disease, adrenal disease, gonadal disorders and metabolic bone disease. We also provide diabetes care, with an interdisciplinary team, for all types of diabetes, including hyper-glycaemia in pregnancy.
The position of staff specialist endocrinologist will provide outpatient care in endocrinology, diabetes and hyper-glycaemia in pregnancy. The endocrinologist will also provide inpatient care to people admitted with acute endocrine emergencies, advise patients admitted under other teams in Canberra Hospital with diabetes and other endocrine conditions, and provide peri-operative care for patients having pituitary surgery. The endocrinologist will also contribute to the department in terms of teaching, trainee supervision, quality improvement activities and/or research, and to the broader hospital community.
Strong research links are maintained with the ANU, University of Canberra and the Australian Catholic University. All specialties are represented with the exception of organ transplantation. The hospital has well-developed post-graduate teaching programs. A fully equipped medical library is available on site with a large collection of hard copy and online journals and textbooks.
The preferred candidate may be considered for a conjoint position in ANU at an academic level commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience. The academic position will be held for the duration of the Canberra Health Services employment and will be subject to regular performance reviews. No remuneration is attached to the university position. The employee will be responsible to the university on academic matters and to the Canberra Hospital & Health Services / Canberra Health Services for clinical and research matters.

Prerequisites
Hold Specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency
Meet credentialing requirements and receive an endorsed scope of clinical practice from the Medical Dental Appointments Advisory Committee (MDAAC)
Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check
Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy
