Life at Mission Australia

When you join the team at Mission Australia, you become part of a community who are determined to end homelessness and ensure people in need can thrive. United by our Christian purpose and values, we stand together with anyone who needs us, for as long as they need us. Find out more about us and our purpose .

Your Opportunity

Are you a compassionate Endorsed Enrolled or Registered Nurse with a passion for empowering vulnerable individuals? We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Enrolled or Registered Nurse to join Mission Australia and support two residential services in Cairns: Douglas House, a 22-bed supported accommodation program assisting individuals transitioning from long-term homelessness into independent living, and Woree Supported Housing Accommodation, a transitional housing program helping clients move from chronic homelessness to community living.

This full-time, permanent role focuses on capacity building rather than direct clinical care. You will provide comprehensive health assessments, connect clients with appropriate health services, offer guidance on accessing support, and deliver mental health and AOD support. With an emphasis on health care plans and case coordination, this role provides the opportunity to work autonomously in your own office, empowering clients to achieve stability and independence.

The hours for this role are standard Monday to Friday, 9-5 pm, providing a greater work-life balance with no shift work required.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

* Conduct comprehensive health assessments and deliver clinical and psychosocial interventions, including counselling and psychoeducation.

* Collaborate on case planning, attend interagency meetings, and advocate for clients with medical and support services.

* Support client transitions from Douglas House to Woree Supported Accommodation, ensuring continuity of care.

* Maintain accurate client records, case notes, and reports in line with Mission Australia protocols.

* Provide medical care, administer medication, and facilitate referrals to health services within a recovery framework.

Requirements for Success

* Current AHPRA registration valid in Queensland.

* Minimum of 3 years' full-time experience in community-based nursing, mental health, or alcohol and drug sectors.

* Proven ability to develop and implement care plans, manage complex health needs, and work within a multidisciplinary team.

* Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and an understanding of cultural considerations.

* Familiarity with trauma-informed care principles when working with vulnerable populations.

* Current driver's license and valid Working with Children Blue Card (or ability to obtain one).

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.

Your benefits

* Rewarding work – every day you know you're making a real difference

* Not-for-profit salary packaging, reducing your tax (details via AccessPay )

* Free external, confidential counselling and access to chaplaincy support

* Volunteering opportunities

* Opportunity to purchase additional annual leave

* Extra leave including: Mission Australia Thank You Day & Work Anniversary Day off
