Ecologist (PO2) & Senior Ecologist (PO3) – Threatened Species Assessment (Toowong)

Are you an experienced Ecologist passionate about conservation and utilising data to protect threatened species?

My client is seeking both PO2 and PO3 level Ecologists to join their team in Toowong. These critical contract roles focus on producing scientifically accurate and defensible threatened species assessments using global standards.

The Opportunity (PO2 & PO3)

The purpose of these roles is to contribute to a program responsible for producing robust threatened species assessments using the Common Assessment Methodology (CAM). You will be essential in applying the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria to nominate the appropriate wildlife class for species under the Nature Conservation Act 1992.

* Location: Toowong, QLD.
* Role Type: Casual (36.25 hrs/wk) until 30 June 2026, with the possibility of extension.
* Remuneration:
o PO2: $52.97 per hour + super.
o PO3: $66.94 per hour + super.


Key Responsibilities

* Comprehensively research and collate available literature and data for priority species.
* Produce threatened species assessments for flora and fauna.
* Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
* Peer review nominations to ensure consistent interpretation of the IUCN Categories and Criteria within the team.
* Assist with the preparation of procedures, reports, scientific publications, and presentations.


Essential Skills & Qualifications

* Qualifications: Must hold a degree in biological sciences, ecology, or environmental management (or agreed equivalent). A postgraduate degree is highly regarded.
* Expert Knowledge: High-level practical experience and understanding of threatened species (preferably flora) ecology, threatening processes, and contemporary conservation issues in Australia (preferably Queensland).
* Assessment Skills: High-level knowledge and demonstrated understanding of the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria and the Common Assessment Method (CAM).
* Field Preparedness: Must hold a current unrestricted driver's licence and be prepared for occasional fieldwork, which may involve travel and camping in remote locations.
* Communication: High-level research, data analysis, and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to communicate complex ecological concepts clearly and concisely in written reports.
