Hours per fortnight

73.50 hours per fortnight - flexible options available.

Duties
* Provide authoritative advice on contemporary nursing knowledge, skills and practice in cases that are reported to and investigated by the Coroner. Provide expert advice on nursing practice and standards of care across all areas of health practice and along the continuum of healthcare delivery across the state.
* Provide a state-wide specialist consultancy service, providing authoritative expertise and the provision of clinical advice to general practitioners, hospitals both public and private, healthcare facilities, community health centres and health delivery environments regarding the issue of MCCDs in apparent natural causes deaths and facilitate the issue of the MCCDs from these services, where appropriate.
* Participate in the provision of education and development programs for both internal staff of the Coronial Division and external personnel (as appropriate) on matters relating to reportable deaths, the provision of MCCDs and functions of the Coroner’s Division.
* At direction of the Coroner, evaluate cases in which a death has occurred in a health care facility and provide advice on those deaths both formally and informally, written and verbal, within the scope of practice.
* As and when directed by the Coroner, assess the actions and strategies of individual aged care facilities and hospitals in respect of falls assessment and prevention in each reported death where a fatal fall occurs in such a facility or hospital.
* Undertake a comprehensive review of medical records obtained by the Coroner under the Act, and liaise with health care professionals, Coroner and Coroners’ Associates regarding the scope of the review. Prepare a thorough, comprehensive, and accurate case report for the Coroner by identifying significant contributing factors and concerns. Define and develop recommendations for consideration by the investigating Coroner.
* Assist the Coroner and Coroners Associates with interpretation of medical records, specialist reports and autopsy findings obtained because of a coronial inquiry.
* Work in conjunction with the Coronial Medical Advisor to provide advice and assistance to the Coroner in cases requiring both nursing and medical expertise.
* Assisting families with explanations of medical terminology and answering queries about medical procedures, medical records and medical issues contributing to death connected with a reported death as directed.
* Support research, data collection and quality improvement activities relating to reported deaths with collection, interpretation, and documentation of information.
* In addition to the duties set out above, to perform any other duties within the capacity, qualifications and experience normally expected from persons occupying a similar position at this classification level, as directed by the Coroner carrying any functions under the Coroners Act 1995.
Essential Requirements
* Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse.
Desirable Requirements
* Hold or working towards relevant Post Graduate qualifications.
* Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Registered Nurse
* Driver’s Licence
