You will be expected to carry the burden of maintaining our excellent reputation in all your dealings with clients, the courts and external agencies whilst maintaining the strictest confidence of our clients and our business operations.Senior Criminal Lawyer (5+ years post-admission experience)The senior criminal lawyer position is suited to a lawyer with sound advocacy experience, efficient at assessing briefs of evidence and experienced at providing sound strategic advice for achieving the best outcomes for clients charged with serious criminal offences.The senior criminal lawyer will have a passion for criminal law, courage to fight with conviction and persuasion to advance their clients' interests and present legal argument that is considered and factually and legally sound.The senior criminal lawyer will have a thorough knowledge of relevant legislation and be inherently motivated to expand their knowledge base by researching / referencing case law and recent authority on sentencing and legal issues that invariably arise in the practice of criminal law.The senior criminal lawyer will thrive on appearing as counsel in criminal trials and sentencing on their own matters, and if desired, in the appeal Courts.
The senior criminal lawyer will understand that the responsibilities owed to their clients and to their reputation may require them to work outside of usual business hours.Qualifications & experienceAdmitted (or eligible for admission) as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Western Australia.A minimum of five years post-admission experience (with at least three years experience in the practice of criminal law).Criminal Lawyer (2 to 5 years post-admission experience)This position is suited to a lawyer who has a strong interest in criminal defence and has the self-confidence to be in the courtroom persuasively advocating on behalf of their client with clear and logical argument.
The role will involve court work appropriate for the number of years experience and will require an analytical mind to assess briefs of evidence and provide sound strategic advice for achieving the best outcomes for clients charged with serious criminal offences.
