**The Job**:
As an EL1 Policy/Legislation Officer, you will play a crucial role in driving legislative amendments, policy development, and regulatory reform. Your responsibilities will include:
- Progressing amendments to an Act and the Control Rules by engaging with stakeholders, developing policy positions, and negotiating outcomes.
- Developing necessary legislative or policy amendments to ensure a consistent regulatory approach across different commodity areas.
- Consulting with internal and external stakeholders to align the legislation with industry and international trade practices.
- Administering training on the legislative framework to enhance regulatory and compliance performance.
- Leading ongoing reform efforts related to the Export Control legislative framework, including policy review and development.
- Supporting health check activities to ensure the legislative framework is fit for purpose.
- Supervising and guiding staff to achieve project and policy outcomes.
- Contributing to section planning.
**Knowledge and Experience**:
- Strategic or legal policy and/or legislative development, advice, and implementation.
- Stakeholder management, including effective liaising and negotiation skills.
- Compliance and regulation experience in policy analysis.
- Ability to supervise and guide junior staff.
- Understanding of Australia's trade policies and export system (beneficial but not essential).
