About the role:
The Business Development Manager, Defence and Space identify, develop, and secure strategic investment and export opportunities that deliver economic value to South Australia's defence and space sector. The role operates under broad direction, the role builds and maintains a robust pipeline of initiatives through proactive stakeholder engagement, cross-government coordination, and expert market analysis. The role also ensures effective relationship management and reporting, contributing to job creation and the growth of South Australia's global defence footprint.
As a Business Development Manager, you will:
Lead the identification, development, structuring, and closure of high-value investment and export deals aligned with South Australia's strategic priorities
Collaborate with government agencies and representatives to deliver coordinated investment initiatives and promote South Australia's defence capabilities globally
Conduct market research, gap analysis, and country-specific studies to provide expert advice on areas of competitive strength and growth potential
Build and maintain strategic alliances across government and industry, leveraging CRM systems to manage relationships and track project progress
Prepare high-level reports, briefings, and recommendations for the Chief Executive and Minister's Office to support informed decision‐making
To apply and succeed in the role, you will have:
Demonstrated knowledge of the defence and space industries, investment opportunities, and relevant State Government priorities and policies
Proven ability to shape strategic thinking and provide high-level advice through market research, economic and financial analysis
Strong understanding of national and international trends impacting the defence and space sector, investment, and economic growth
Experience preparing high-level reports and briefings for senior government stakeholders, and maintaining effective networks and relationships across government, industry, and international partners
Remuneration:
Competitive salary ASO8 $121,107 to $125,679 p.a. plus superannuation

Qualifications:
Highly Desirable: Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Commerce, Economics, Business or Project Management
Special Conditions:
The role will be offered full‐time (1.0 FTE) for up to 24 months
Satisfactory Department of Human Services Criminal History Check or National Police Check (NPC) required prior to employment
Hold or have the ability to obtain an NV1 security clearance
