Primary objective
Responsible for the leadership and overall management of the Patient Service Department providing a client focused quality
service to all clients of the Katherine Hospital, in line with departmental policies and procedures.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Ensure all relevant work areas have systems in place to provide a quality service with adequately trained staff in
accordance with all DCHS requirements and Policy Frameworks.
2. Maintain the medical record department and patient files in line with relevant Legislation and best practice guidelines.
3. Recruit and coordinate induction of new staff.
4. Provide direction and motivation for staff to develop skills and set personal goals to assist with professional development.
5. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
6. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being
undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
7. Prepare rosters meeting cost centre budgetary requirements.
8. Maintain service provision within the department budget parameters.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated ability to effectively manage and supervise staff with good interpersonal and team building skills including
the ability to resolve conflict and promote good working relationships Demonstrated high level of ability to communicate
with health professional staff and members of the public.
2. Demonstrated ability to accept responsibility, use initiative, and work under pressure and meet work timeframes.
3. Demonstrated ability to encourage and motivate positive staffs work practices and attitudes, within a team environment.
4. High level organisational skills, self-motivation and the ability to organise work priorities
5. Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and experience in public sector recruitment, Equal Employment Opportunity
and merit selection processes.
6. An ability to interact with people from diverse cultures.
Desirable
1. Certificate III in Business Administration or similar.
