About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and specialised Mechanical Engineer to join our high-performing team at our Kwinana manufacturing facility in Perth.
Reporting to the Engineering and Maintenance Manager, you will provide critical engineering and technical expertise across our safety, maintenance, production, and quality departments. This is a hands-on, cross-functional position ideal for a mechanical engineering professional who thrives in a agile manufacturing environment and wants to make a real impact on plant reliability, efficiency, and safety.
Key Responsibilities
Plant Reliability & Maintenance
- Lead the design, maintenance, and reliability of plant systems and equipment.
- Provide technical support across maintenance, production, safety, and quality functions.
- Conduct root cause analysis of equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance strategies to minimize unplanned downtime.
- Manage critical spare parts inventory and coordinate maintenance activities.
Engineering Project Management
- Lead complex engineering projects from concept through to commissioning.
- Prepare technical drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Oversee equipment installations, ensuring timelines, budget, and quality standards are met.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and progress reports.
- Liaise with internal teams and external suppliers to ensure timely and cost-effective project delivery.
Quality & Process Improvement
- Develop and enforce engineering quality processes aligned with company standards.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment efficiency and reduce cost.
- Drive best practices in equipment design, inspection, testing, and maintenance.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure engineering activities comply with all regulatory, contractual, and company requirements.
- Actively support the company’s health and safety objectives by identifying risks and participating in audits and investigations.
- Promote and ensure adherence to safety procedures and legislation across engineering operations.
Team Leadership & Planning
- Assign and manage work for engineering and maintenance team members.
- Mentor and coach team members to build technical capabilities and performance.
- Contribute to resource and capacity planning to support long-term operational goals.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will bring a strong foundation in mechanical engineering, complemented by extensive experience in heavy industry and conveyor systems. You thrive in complex, fast-paced environments and are confident managing multiple priorities while collaborating effectively across disciplines.
You hold a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (or equivalent qualifications supported by relevant industry or trade experience) and possess hands-on experience working with Siempelkamp machinery within a large multinational organisation and multi-disciplinary project team setting. Your background includes designing conveyor belt equipment specifically for applications in the Australian mining industry, with a thorough understanding of Australian Mining Equipment Standards and regulatory compliance requirements.
You are highly proficient in advanced 3D design, preferably using Autodesk Inventor or a similar CAD platform, and possess strong engineering analysis and calculation skills, including the ability to perform manual calculations when required. Your technical expertise is complemented by strong analytical and reporting capabilities, and you excel at building effective working relationships across all levels of the organisation.
Your strong leadership, effective time management, and commitment to quality enable you to consistently meet deadlines while maintaining high work standards. A willingness to travel to various sites and plants across the region, along with flexibility to work weekends or alternative shifts when project timelines demand, rounds out your strong fit for this role.
