Job Purpose
The Principal Track and Corridor Engineer is the technical head of the track discipline for the UGL Regional Linx on the Country Regional Network, holding the highest level of delegated Engineering Authority and with overall accountability for standards and codes, design and configuration, processes and procedures and technical decision making for track, geotechnical, permanent way and property matters.
The role leads a team of technical subject matter experts that support them in assuring that UGL Regional Linx operates the network with integrity and in a technical sound manner, such that the network remains safe and fit for purpose, meeting all performance, reliability and availability requirements.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Hold the highest level of delegated Engineering Authority (EA5) with respect to the track, geotechnical, permanent way and property disciplines.
Manage the delegation of engineering authority within their own discipline area to others within the CRN.
Develop, Maintain, Review and Update all standards, manuals, specifications, technical notes and waivers within their discipline area to ensure that they remain safe and fit for purpose.
Liaise with TfNSW AMB for all standards changes and concessions required against Engineering Standards and Codes managed by TfNSW required by the business for their discipline.
Participate in the development of design briefs for all designs in their discipline, and provide feedback and review at key design gates.
Provide final acceptance of design as adopted for use on CRN after designer issues design for construction.
Provide support to other discipline principal engineers as required for matters of interfaces between technical disciplines, e.g. waiver requests, design interfaces, consistency between standards, etc.
Provide engineering advice pertaining to their discipline to the assets team to enable them to develop, update and maintain asset strategies for CRN assets.
Review and provide approval or conditions for third party access or license applications and development applications as pertains to their discipline standards and threats to the population of their discipline’s assets.
Provide support to the Principal Bridge and Structures Engineer in managing Heavy Vehicle Applications that pertain to level crossings.
Facilitate the analysis of Welded Track Stability annually by maintaining and supporting a WTSA Analysis system and providing technical support and advice to the Infrastructure team in carrying out this analysis.
Provide technical input and review into business cases, variation impact statements or other initiatives that pertain to their discipline.
Develop, Scope and, where relevant, provide Project Management to Engineering Feasibility Studies and other projects pertaining to their discipline.
Maintain record management systems for key technical data, engineering reports and other technical records for their discipline.
Provide technical input into and oversight of contractual KPIs that pertain to their discipline.
Support and follow all reasonable requests by the Head of Assets and Engineering in delivering the services in accordance with the Scope of Works O&M Deed.
Qualifications
Bachelors Degree or higher in an Engineering or related discipline.
Post graduate qualifications in Engineering or Asset Management highly regarded
Chartered Professional Engineer status (or eligibility for this status)
10+ years of practice in track, permanent way or rail geotechnical roles, ideally including a mixture of project delivery, maintenance, design and asset management.
