We are now seeking an experienced Finance Director to lead our financial strategy, operations, and governance as we continue scaling. This role suits a senior financial leader who has managed mid‑size businesses with $10M+ revenues, ideally within professional services. Legal experience is highly advantageous but not essential .

The Role

Reporting directly to the Solicitor Director, the Finance Director will take full ownership of OFL's finance function, strategic, operational, and compliance .

You will provide commercial insight, lead financial governance, and help shape the firm's growth pathway into 2026 and beyond.

This is a hands‑on leadership role, ideal for someone who enjoys building systems, improving financial performance, and partnering closely with business owners.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic & Operational Finance Leadership

Lead the finance function to support the firm's ongoing expansion and performance targets.

Provide financial governance across all areas of reporting, planning, controls, and compliance.

Partner with the leadership team on business planning, pricing strategy, cost management, and profitability optimisation.

Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling to support strategic decisions.

Prepare monthly management accounts, board reports, cashflow forecasts, and variance analysis.

Monitor and analyse firm‑wide performance metrics, including WIP, revenue, realisation, and utilisation.

Financial Control, Compliance & Systems

Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements, including (where applicable) Law Society trust accounting obligations.

Oversee payroll, accounts payable, reconciliations, and general ledger accuracy.

Lead continuous improvement of financial systems, workflow automation, and process optimisation.

Stakeholder Management

Manage relationships with external accountants, auditors, banks, and financial advisors.

Provide timely, accurate advice and insights to the Principal Director and leadership team.

About You

You are a seasoned finance leader who thrives in a growing, owner‑led environment. You are commercially astute, systems‑minded, and confident operating at both strategic and operational levels.

You bring:

7+ years' experience in senior financial leadership (Finance Manager, Controller, CFO, or Finance Director).

Experience managing finances of a mid‑size business ($10M+ revenue) .

Background in professional services (legal preferred but not required).

CA or CPA qualified (essential).

Strong capability in financial modelling, forecasting, and performance analysis.

Advanced skills in Xero, Excel, and reporting systems .

Strong understanding of payroll, compliance frameworks, and financial governance.

Excellent leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills.

High integrity, attention to detail, and a proactive, improvement‑focused mindset.
