The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) seeks individual Labour Hire Workers – Site Security Observers (SSOs) – to support construction security activities across domestic and international projects. The engagement is on a 12‐month term in a labour hire arrangement, with work on an as‐needed basis aligned to project demand.

Engagements are on a 12‐month contract, with work on an as‐needed labour hire basis. Hours will vary and are dependent on operational and project requirements. There is no guarantee of continuous engagement. The SSO may work up to an estimated 1,800 billable hours across the initial 12‐month term.
Location and TravelDomestic – from Q3 2026; Pacific – from Q3 2026; South Pacific – from Q1 2027. Labour Hire Workers may be required to travel to perform duties on DFAT construction sites, including overseas locations. Travel and associated allowances are paid by DFAT under the SAP Travel System. The Worker must hold the required minimum DFAT clearance (NV1) prior to travel and meet visa, vaccination, and medical assessment requirements.
Security ClearanceAll SSOs must hold Australian Government Negative Vetting Level 1 security clearance prior to commencement.
Benefits and CompensationHourly rate is negotiated with the Service Provider, including hourly amount, casual loading, superannuation and on‐costs. No overtime is payable and working hours are project‐based. Trial periods of intensive activity followed by periods of inactivity may occur.
Employment ConditionsAll duties are performed onsite; remote or work‐from‐home arrangements are not permitted. There is no entitlement to paid sick leave or payment for work not performed due to personal illness while travelling. Labour Hire Workers must accept the nature of engagement and work availability prior to nomination.
