About the Opportunity
Our client is seeking a motivated Animal Control Officer to support its animal management program across the Shire's urban communities. This hands-on, community facing role ensures compliance with animal management legislation and supports safe, responsible pet ownership throughout the region.
As part of this program, you will :
Conduct house-to-house inspections to confirm the number and types of animals kept on properties.
Identify non-compliance with local laws, minimum standards and relevant legislation.
Respond to urgent animal control and community safety situations, including after-hours when required.
Issue compliance notices, Penalty Infringement Notices and prepare documentation for legal processes.
Support Council's proactive animal management initiatives, including education and rehoming efforts.
Represent Council with professionalism and provide courteous customer service to residents.
This position averages ***** hours per week, Monday to Friday between 6am and 6pm, with some travel to smaller towns across the Shire.
About You
You are a confident, community-minded professional who can work independently, communicate effectively and enforce legislation with fairness and integrity. You thrive in a role that involves fieldwork, public interaction and problem-solving.
To be successful, you will have :
A current C Class Driver's Licence.
Physical fitness and capability to undertake manual handling and site inspections.
Demonstrated experience in animal management, animal husbandry or compliance / enforcement roles.
Sound understanding, or the ability to quickly acquire knowledge of the Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act ****, related regulations and local laws.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare accurate reports and legal documentation.
Competency using digital devices, electronic infringement systems and Microsoft Office.
The ability to remain calm, respectful and professional when dealing with sensitive or challenging situations.
Willingness to be appointed as an Authorised Officer under Council's Local Laws.
Flexibility to work outside normal business hours when required.
