Southern Home Improvements is a growing residential building and renovation company specialising in high‑quality home renovations and additions. Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Building Designer to join our team.
This role has a strong focus on design-led residential renovations, working directly with clients to create practical, well‑considered solutions for existing homes.
### About the Role
As our Building Designer, you will be involved from initial site measure through to detailed documentation. You will play a key role in developing design concepts, refining layouts, and producing high‑quality documentation for construction.
Key responsibilities include:
* Measuring up existing residential homes.
* Preparing accurate existing conditions drawings.
* Meeting with clients to develop and document detailed design briefs.
* Designing residential renovations and additions, including concept design, layouts, spatial planning, and external form
* Translating client requirements into functional, compliant, and buildable design solutions.
* Producing detailed working drawings suitable for approvals and construction.
* Collaborating closely with contractors and consultants to refine designs and resolve construction details.
### About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
* Strong Revit experience (essential)
* Proven experience designing and documenting residential renovations and additions.
* A strong design sensibility with the ability to balance aesthetics, functionality, and construction practicality.
* Sound understanding of residential construction methods.
* Excellent communication skills and confidence presenting and discussing designs with clients.
* High attention to detail and strong time management skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team .
### Desirable (but not essential)
* Knowledge of Australian building codes and local council requirements
* Previous experience working within a residential building or design practice
