In this role you'll:
* Report to our Executive Director Work Health & Safety (WH&S) within our Safety, Policy, Environment & Regulation division.
* Shape the future of workplace health and safety at an enterprise level, leading the development of a new three-year WHS strategy across Transport for NSW and its rail agencies
* Drive a genuinely holistic safety culture, one that encompasses all aspects of the safety domain.
* Lead and develop a team of four WH&S experts, influencing executive leaders across multiple agencies with diverse cultures and varying levels of safety maturity
* Partner with our People, Culture and Workplace division to embed safety and wellbeing into the broader organisational culture, ensuring a joined-up approach to how we look after our people
* Apply a multidisciplinary lens, drawing on systems thinking, human factors, occupational health or safety engineering to reduce risk and embed lasting behavioural change
* Shape the full safety lifecycle, from day-to-day operations and incident management through to long-term strategic planning and continuous improvement frameworks

About you
You bring significant senior WH&S leadership experience from an industrial or heavy industry environment, either transport, infrastructure, utilities, construction or similar. You understand high-risk operational realities, but your expertise extends well beyond physical risk management. You think deeply about how organisations reduce harm from all hazards including psychosocial risks and chronic stress to systemic culture gaps, and you know how to translate that thinking into practical strategy.
Your background may be grounded in human factors, occupational health, systems engineering or traditional operational safety management. What matters most is a multidisciplinary perspective paired with experience influencing executive level decision making. You're comfortable navigating complex stakeholder landscapes and bringing diverse leadership teams on a shared journey.
Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline and professional membership of a recognised safety body are expected. Most importantly, you're a strategic thinker who is energised by the opportunity to build something meaningful.
