What you need to know

* Permanent full time – 70 hours per fortnight
* The package: $104,669 to $124,820 plus superannuation per annum
* Flexible workplace location, being Grafton or Maclean, NSW
* Flexible work options plus flex time
* Access to low-cost leaseback vehicle – RAV4 Hybrid
* Up to $4,000 relocation cost reimbursement


About the role

The primary purpose of this role is to lead and inspire the Building Services team in delivering high-quality, customer‑focused building assessment, certification, and compliance services that ensure safe, sustainable and compliant development across the community.

The role drives continual improvement in systems and practices, provides expert guidance on complex building and legislative matters, and acts as a key link between the team, senior management, industry stakeholders and NSW Fair Trading regarding building certification matters.

Through strong leadership, professional expertise and a commitment to service excellence, the role ensures Council meets its statutory responsibilities while fostering a positive, collaborative and high‑performing team culture.

If you're a registered or eligible Building Surveyor with proven experience in managing building certification, regulatory services, or development assessment—and you value teamwork, innovation, and community—join us in shaping the future of one of regional NSW's most naturally beautiful and welcoming communities.


To be successful in this role, you will need to possess

* Tertiary qualifications in Building Surveying or a related discipline, supported by extensive experience in building assessment, certification, and compliance.
* Comprehensive knowledge of the National Construction Code, the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, the Local Government Act 1993, and associated regulations, policies, and standards.
* Demonstrated capability in assessing Development Applications, Complying Development Certificates, Construction Certificate and related applications.
* Strong leadership experience, with the ability to guide, develop and motivate a professional team while managing workloads, budgets, and competing priorities.
* High‑level communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, enabling you to provide clear technical advice and build productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

2. What is your proposed leadership style to manage Building Services as a high performing team?

2. Supply a resume (5pg. max.) that clearly details your skills & experience as relevant to this position.
3. Supply relevant certificates and licences.

Other important information

This position's preferred location is at Council's Grafton Office however Council is flexible to locate the role at the Maclean Office; primary office location may change should business needs identify other work locations to be more appropriate to deliver our services in the future.
