Primary Objective
To supervise and coordinate all fabrication activities, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality completion of marine repair and maintenance projects in accordance with Kailis Marine Engineering standards and client requirements.
Key Responsibilities
* Supervise and lead fabrication personnel to deliver quality workmanship safely, on time, and within budget.
* Plan, allocate, and monitor daily work tasks for welders, fabricators, and apprentices.
* Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and quality standards across workshop and site operations.
* Interpret and review technical drawings, specifications, and work scopes.
* Coordinate with engineering, project, and quality teams to resolve technical and production issues.
* Manage materials, consumables, and equipment requirements for ongoing and upcoming jobs.
* Conduct inspections to verify fabricated components meet specifications and tolerances.
* Provide training, mentoring, and performance feedback to team members.
* Maintain accurate records of progress, time, and material usage.
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives and promote a positive, safety-first culture.
Skills and Experience
* Trade qualification in Metal Fabrication, Welding, or Boilermaking (Certificate III or higher).
* Proven supervisory or leading hand experience in marine, heavy fabrication, or ship repair environments.
* Marine industry experience is essential, with specific experience in marine fabrication and ship repair environments required.
* Strong understanding of fabrication processes, welding procedures, and quality assurance standards.
* Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications.
* Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
* Strong focus on workplace health, safety, and quality outcomes.
* Able to manage priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
* Must have Australian citizenship or permanent residency with unrestricted work rights.
