The opportunity
The Head of Legal is a pivotal executive role at the core of the organisation's success, shaping the legal and commercial strategy across all construction and infrastructure projects. As a trusted advisor to the CEO and senior leadership team, this role plays a critical part in enabling growth, safeguarding the business, and driving high-value project outcomes.
Key responsibilities
* Lead legal matters on contracts, disputes, claims, corporate and regulatory and lead the legal function as a strategic partner to the executive team, influencing key business decisions.
* Provide strategic legal advice on major tenders, bids, joint ventures, alliances and acquisitions; oversee all legal aspects of major construction projects from tender and procurement through to delivery and close-out. Structure, negotiate and manage complex, high-value contracts to optimise commercial outcomes and minimise risk.
* Own dispute avoidance and resolution strategy, including adjudications, litigation and external counsel management; direct dispute resolution strategy including claims, litigation and arbitration, protecting the company's interests.
* Develop and maintain group-wide legal templates, standards, playbooks and frameworks; ensure robust governance, compliance and risk management frameworks across the organisation.
* Build risk-aware capability across the business through coaching, training and governance.
About you
* Strong commercial acumen, legal experience and senior stakeholder influence capability and proven leadership capability in a complex, fast-paced environment
* Admitted Australian lawyer with 8-12+ years PQE in construction, infrastructure or major projects
* Demonstrated experience leading legal functions, managing disputes, advising Executives and operating at executive level to influence organisational strategy
