This is a 9 month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 2, 2026 with possible extension (12 months) and/or permanency

Aveley Secondary College (SC) opened in 2018 and is a large secondary school catering to students in Years 7 to 12 in Perth's Swan Valley. The College is recognised as a school of choice with high expectations and standards, a progressive approach and commitment to excellence. Our Education Support Program caters for over 70 students with moderate to severe disabilities. We provide a safe and nurturing learning environment for students, supported by a highly dedicated team of teachers and education assistants. In the Education Support Program, all students have individualised programs and planning to support their needs and pathways. The school's moral purpose is success for every student, every day.

Our staff are supported through professional development and mentoring to build capacity. There is a strong foundation and leadership structure to support our Education Support team. The Education Support building boasts state of the art facilities for students, including a hydrotherapy pool, a sensory play space, a purpose built life skills room, hoisting equipment, a therapy consult space and generously sized classrooms. The Role

At Aveley SC our dynamic team of specialist teachers and education support staff work in close partnership to deliver individualised programs and evidence-based practice that develops each student's educational, physical, and social skills. Teachers are expected to modify curriculum to meet the student's individual needs. Our staff work in partnership with students, parents, and other stakeholders to provide targeted and relevant programs focusing on functional literacy and numeracy, communication, social skills, protective behaviours, and independent living skills, leading to employability skills including Workplace Learning (WPL) and Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses.

We are looking for a flexible and reflective teacher to join our team, preferably with specialist knowledge and skills related to students with moderate to severe disability, including Intellectual Disability (ID), multiple physical disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Trauma. Experience in supporting students with co-morbid diagnoses and complex communication needs is highly desirable. Applicants with Special Needs qualifications or a willingness to undertake further postgraduate study in Special Needs Education would be highly regarded. Th esuccessful applicant will ideally be committed to promoting and fostering student engagement and creating a supportive environment where student success is celebrated.

The successful applicant will ideally be an experienced Secondary Education Support teacher or Primary trained teacher with Education Support experience and willing to teach at all year levels. It is highly desirable for applicants to have a strong background in Classroom Management Strategies (CMS) and knowledge of trauma informed practice, Special Education Needs Reporting To Parents (SEN RTP) and Abilities Based Learning Education (ABLEWA) reporting, Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network (ASDAN), Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communications Handicapped Children (TEACCH) practice, Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and Positive Behaviour Support (PBS).

The successful applicant will ideally be able to develop, implement and review meaningful and appropriate Individual Education Plans that not only outline functional curriculum objectives, but that support the whole student through targeted social-emotional skills, life skills and Protective Behaviours curriculum.

As a Teacher in an Education Support environment, you would be responsible for positively managing a team of Education Assistants, within your classroom.
