The Role
As the Head of Department - English, you will be a key member of the administrative team, working closely with the Principal, Deputy Principal, and other Heads of Learning Area to provide educational leadership within the school. You will provide professional guidance to English teachers, ensuring they stay informed on relevant curriculum issues and innovations, and model exemplary evidence-based practice as a leader. The successful applicant should display the ability to provide direction and purpose to staff, build team capacity and cohesion, and promote an environment of positive learning for staff and students.
The successful applicant will ideally display an excellent understanding of the Western Australian Curriculum with a view to continuing to build and improve practice around the inclusion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait histories and culture, and Culturally Responsive Classrooms. This knowledge, combined with pedagogical skills and leadership acumen, should enable the development of programs differentiated for the specific learning needs of all students across a full range of abilities. In addition, you will ideally use high level data literacy and monitoring processes to support all students, including those who are not performing to their full potential.
We have a Future Leaders program at Governor Stirling Senior High School which drives the quality of our leaders and aspirant leaders, embedding a mentor program along with regular sessions focussing on improving key leaderships skills and traits. * hold registration with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia
* obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start; and
* consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit before you start.
