About the role

Reporting to Program Manager Koorie, the Koorie Student Support Officer will provide a range of welfare monitoring and intervention support to ensure the success of Koorie students to commence, continue and complete their studies. This position works closely with teachers and managers to engage, retain and build success of Koorie students. This works to deliver highly valued support strategies to improve student retention and success and ensure an excellent student experience. This position acts as the first point of contact for Koorie students and provides direct student support and referrals to appropriate support services as needed.

This is an Indigenous identified position and only available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This position represents a special measure in accordance with s8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth) and s12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic).

Qualifications and Experience

* Experience working with the Koorie Community
* Familiarity with using the Internet. Microsoft Office skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
* Significant recent experience, understanding, and involvement in Koorie and/or mainstream education
* A Post-Secondary Qualification (e.g. Koorie Studies, Education, Community Services) is desirable

* Current Victorian Working with Children Clearance
* Current Police Check (not older than 12 months old)
