About This Opportunity
The School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences (SCMB) is seeking casual academics for Semester 2, 2026. Casual academics will support teaching, research and outreach by tutoring, marking, demonstrating, teaching, engaging students, moderating/ facilitating, and advising across chemistry and the molecular biosciences disciplines.
Hours and times will follow the class timetable – typically 9:50‐12:50am and 1:50‐4:50pm from 27July to 30October2026. A commitment is required for each week the course runs, although exceptions may be considered with advance explanation.
Pay is $56.47 per hour ($66.79 for PhD‐qualified) and will increase by 2% after 30June2026. Training is provided, but disciplinary knowledge is a selection criterion.
About You
Applicants must hold at least an undergraduate degree majoring in the discipline in which they intend to deliver content and should have recent experience with the material or the capacity to learn it quickly. Candidates may be enrolled at honours or postgraduate level, working as research assistants, postdoctoral fellows, or have prior teaching experience at a significant level.
The selection process involves assessment of your application and may include an interview with a technical skills analysis. Postdoctoral fellows and research assistants already appointed at UQ may incorporate casual academic work into their duties by arrangement with their supervisor and will not receive additional casual rates depending on their employment fraction.
