Mental Health Chaplain

About The Role

A Mental Health Chaplain provides high quality transformational pastoral care and spiritual support to consumers, their families and carers in line with CatholicCare's Person Centred Approach, Mission, Vision and Values. The Chaplain works inclusively with people of diverse backgrounds, issues and needs, of faith or not, to sustain and empower the individual to enable holistic wellbeing and recovery.

The Chaplain is responsible for:

* Assessing the religious, spiritual, pastoral and practical needs of consumers and their families
* Providing a Ministry of presence, spiritual guidance, pastoral care and grief support
* Enabling, where appropriate, participation in worship, sacraments and other religious functions
* Assessing and managing appropriate boundary, privacy and confidentiality issues
* Promoting and raising the profile of Chaplaincy amongst facility staff; providing education and leadership through speaking engagements and other appropriate activities to the wider community on the role of a Mental Health Chaplain
* Developing and maintaining consultative and collaborative relationships with Chaplains from various religious denominations working within the Mental Health service
* Developing and maintaining consultative and collaborative relationships with chaplains and clergy working near the Mental Health centre

About You

To be a successful candidate for this role you will have:

* The ability to undertake the duties of the role in accordance with CatholicCare's Mission, Vision and Values
* A demonstrated commitment to the ethos and values of the Catholic Church and its faith traditions
* Pastoral Care and/or Pastoral Counselling qualifications such as Clinical Pastoral Education (minimum 400 hours), or equivalent
* The ability to articulate a variety of theological perspectives arising from an individual's particular theological formation. Additional qualifications in Mental Health are desirable but not essential.
* A demonstrated ability in delivering pastoral care and spiritual mentoring in a multi‐faith context, and the ability to engage with people in matters of belief and meaning
* A demonstrated ability to listen, respond and act with sensitivity, empathy, compassion and confidentiality
* A demonstrated understanding of problems which may be experienced by clients and their carers
* A demonstrated experience in working in an institutional context
* A high level of organisational skills to ensure achievable scheduling of visits, detailed visit notes and data collection and retrieval.

Employment Conditions

Generous above‐award rates + Super + Not‐for‐profit salary packaging up to $18,550.
