Senior Communications Advisor
Location: Sunshine Coast, QLD
Contract Type: Contract until Oct 2027
Salary: $77 - $82 per hour, plus super
A government organisation on the Sunshine Coast is seeking an experienced Senior Communications Advisor to support a high-profile portfolio of public-facing initiatives. With a strong pipeline of infrastructure projects driving regional growth and transformation, this role offers the opportunity to lead strategic communications that inform, engage and inspire. This is a chance to work in a fast-paced environment where your storytelling and stakeholder engagement skills will help shape public understanding and build trust in the delivery of major programs.
About the Role
As the Senior Communications Advisor, you’ll play a key role in developing and delivering strategic communications and engagement initiatives that connect communities with the benefits of infrastructure investment. You’ll work closely with project teams to ensure clear, consistent messaging and build public confidence in the work being delivered.
Key Responsibilities
* Drive the development, implementation, and management of strategic communication plans and campaigns for projects across the region
* Work alongside project delivery teams to craft messaging that connects community members with the social and economic benefits
* Build strong and enduring stakeholder relationships – whether discussing timelines with contractors or engaging community groups interested in the projects
* Create innovative materials (media releases, newsletters, social media content) that keep commuters and residents updated on project progress — no jargon, just clear, relatable information
* Act as a trusted advisor, providing senior leaders and project teams with timely and expert advice on communication best practices and engagement strategies
* Identify potential challenges before they arise and develop strategies to keep communication flowing smoothly
About You
A confident communicator with a strategic mindset and a passion for connecting people to progress. You understand how to balance organisational priorities with community needs and can navigate complex environments with clarity and professionalism.
* Demonstrated experience in communications, stakeholder engagement or public relations (preferably in government or infrastructure)
* Strong understanding of infrastructure projects, or a willingness to quickly develop this knowledge
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Proven ability to engage diverse communities and manage sensitive messaging in high-profile settings
* Experience working within or alongside government departments
* A proactive, solutions-focused approach to challenges
Qualifications and Mandatory Requirements
* Tertiary qualification in Communications, Public Relations or a related field is highly desirable
* IAP2 Certification is also highly regarded
* Willingness to undertake a Police Check
* Right to work in Australia
