The Catholic Diocese of Townsville is currently seeking a reliable and detail-focused Records and Research Assistant to join the Diocesan Archive and Records Management Service (DARMS). This role supports the preservation, management and accessibility of important historical and operational records across the Diocese and its agencies.
This is a unique opportunity for someone with strong research skills and an interest in archives, history, and information management to contribute to the stewardship of the Diocese’s organisational memory.
About the role
Reporting to the Manager, Diocesan Archive and Records Management, the Records and Research Assistant supports the management and preservation of records and artefacts across diocesan agencies, parishes and affiliated ministries.
Key responsibilities include:
• Assisting with archival processing, cataloguing and digitisation of records
• Supporting the preservation and documentation of archival materials and artefacts
• Conducting research and responding to authorised information requests
• Assisting with records management activities across diocesan agencies
• Providing administrative and project support within DARMS
• Supporting awareness and education initiatives relating to records management
About you
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:
• Strong research and analytical skills with attention to detail
• Experience working with archival collections, records management or information management systems
• Ability to locate and interpret information from multiple sources
• Strong organisational and time management skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively within a small professional team
Experience working with archival or records collections, libraries or historical resources such as TROVE, State Archives or library databases will be highly regarded.
