We are currently looking for an experienced Ecologist ready to take the next step in their career. We're seeking a proactive, detail-oriented professional to join the Ecology Construction Services team in Brisbane, where your work will directly support the ecological integrity of major infrastructure and development projects across Australia.
About the role:
As an Ecologist in our ECS team, youll play a critical role in providing ecological advice and support throughout the construction phase of projects. Youll contribute to high-quality ecological outcomes by managing field-based assessments, supporting Fauna Spotter Catcher (FSC) activities, and preparing detailed environmental reports. This is an exciting opportunity to work across diverse ecosystems and habitats while ensuring that projects align with current environmental legislation and best practices.
This role is primarily office-based, but will involve fieldwork, including local or regional DIDO/FIFO travel and overnight stays as required. Flexibility to work in both office and field environments is key to success.
What You'll Do:
* Conduct ecological surveys and Fauna Spotter Catcher work on construction sites
* Analyse field data and prepare clear, high-quality ecological reports
* Apply best practice project management to ensure timely, budget-conscious delivery
* Use your knowledge of biodiversity conservation to contribute to site planning and mitigation
* Engage with clients, regulatory bodies, and stakeholders
* Support tender and proposal submissions with strong ecological inputs
* Mentor junior staff and foster development within the ECS team
* Regularly attend your closest office (Brisbane, Gold Coast, or Sunshine Coast) or work flexibly/hybrid from one of our other offices for the right candidate
Qualifications & Skills:
* Degree-qualified in Ecology, Environmental Science, Biology, or related field
* Strong understanding of Fauna Spotter Catcher responsibilities and ecological field methods
* Excellent report writing and field data analysis skills
* Working knowledge of environmental legislation (Qld, NSW, Victoria preferred)
* Confident in fauna handling and wildlife rescue principles
* Proficient in GIS mapping (desirable)
* Knowledge of construction WHS protocols
* A team player with strong communication skills and the ability to work independently
Experience:
* Minimum 2 years of office-based experience in ecological consultancy or a related role
* Demonstrated field experience across multiple ecosystems
* Previous experience in construction-related projects
* Ability to liaise with regulatory bodies and deliver ecological components of tenders
