**Job Title:** Laboratory and Technical Support Specialist
**About the Role:
We are seeking a motivated, capable and skilled technician to provide general laboratory and technical support for a range of research and teaching activities.
This is a continuing role available immediately, working full time in our team. Your role will be to deliver technical support and advice for teaching and research projects to students, academics and research staff in line with our strategic direction.
The Infrastructure and Technical Services Team delivers outstanding support to students, academics and researchers for enhancing education and research output. We provide a platform for collaboration across the University, industry involvement and community engagement through customer-focused services based on exceptional personnel skills and expertise.
The team works closely with Academics and Faculty teams as well as the Infrastructure Branch to ensure efficient utilisation of teaching, office, workshop and laboratory space. Being committed to Health, Safety and Wellbeing values, the team manages safe operations across the Faculty labs and workshops.
Working under general supervision, your skills will be used to assist students in the design, manufacture, modifications and testing of final year student projects and Academic research activities.
You will be required to operate specialist testing equipment in the Structures & Natural Resources Laboratories, and demonstrate the use of laboratory techniques and equipment to students and staff.
Your skills will be ideally developed in the education, research and/or manufacturing sector.
Additional skills and experience in one or more of the following disciplines will be looked upon favourably: geotechnical engineering, concrete manufacture and testing, and hydraulics.
**Required Skills and Qualifications:
* Knowledge of Work Health and Safety management requirements relating to a laboratory environment.
* Demonstrated knowledge of technical services and principles associated with working within customer-focused laboratories/workplaces.
* Demonstrated expertise in civil, geotechnical, hydraulic, mechanical or mining engineering laboratory environment.
* Demonstrated experience in the installation, use, maintenance and repair of mechanical, geotechnical, hydraulic, mining or structural testing laboratory equipment.
* Ability to work with general supervision, think creatively and laterally and exercise initiative as appropriate to achieve standards of excellence and monitor ongoing performance.
