Offer description

Working at Achieve is more than just a job.

Our team makes a real difference in people's lives every day - and we make sure to support our staff too. We create a workplace where everyone feels safe to be themselves.

We welcome people from all backgrounds because we know that different experiences, languages, and cultures help us better support our clients and make Achieve stronger.

We're committed to making sure everyone can take part - whether that's through physical access or by making sure people feel included in how things are done and how decisions are made.

Achieve Australia is a for purpose community organisation that provides services to people with disability and an NDIS‐registered provider.

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join us on a 12-month parental leave contract, providing support during a critical period of operational and regulatory activity.

Reporting to the General Counsel, you will operate with a high degree of autonomy and partner closely with executive leaders, People & Culture, and operational teams across the business.

This is a hands‐on in‐house role suited to someone who thrives in a fast‐paced, people‐focused environment and is confident providing pragmatic, solutions‐focused legal advice.

Role Responsibilities

* Providing timely, practical legal advice across employment law and employee relations, including complex and high‐risk matters
* Proactively identifying and intervening in workplace risks to prevent escalation
* Reviewing, drafting and negotiating a broad range of commercial and funding agreements
* Supporting engagement with regulators including the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, Fair Work and other statutory bodies
* Advising on NDIS compliance, privacy, risk management and clients at risk
* Managing relationships with external legal providers and regulators
* Supporting and mentoring a Graduate Solicitor

About You

You are a confident in‐house legal professional who can quickly build trust with the business and manage multiple competing priorities. You will bring:

* Minimum 5 years' experience as a Legal Counsel post admission
* Strong experience in employment law / ER, including investigations, disciplinary matters and Fair Work issues
* Previous in‐house experience (highly regarded)
* Experience working in or advising NDIS, health, disability, or a related regulated sector
* Ability to operate independently while knowing when to elevate and "manage up"
* Excellent judgement, time management and stakeholder engagement skills
* Experience working with workers compensation matters and complex HR issues
* An understanding of privacy considerations in the NDIS context
* Experience in the not‐for‐profit sector (desirable)

Great employee benefits

* Salary packaging options mean you keep more of your take home pay before tax.
* Car leasing is another salary packaging option.
* Free personal and financial counselling for you and your family.
* Range of paid leave and flexible work arrangements.
* Support for a healthy lifestyle, access to fitness passport memberships and wellness programs.
* Regular training and support to succeed in your role, including paid induction for frontline staff.
* A strong record of promoting from within.

Achieve Australia takes safe hiring seriously.

We want to make sure the people we support are safe and well, and we expect all staff to help make that happen.

As part of applying for a job with us, you might need to go through some checks before you start. These could include things like:

* Reference checks
* National Police check
* NDIS Worker Check
* Working with Children check
* Verification of your right to work in Australia.

Please note that a criminal history does not automatically affect employment opportunities.
