The Opportunity
This is a rare opportunity to take on a senior leadership role within Mutual Trust's well-regarded Direct Equities capability, spanning both Australian and International public Equities.
Working closely with the Partner - Research & Portfolio Management and the Portfolio Managers, you will play an important role in shaping portfolio decisions, strengthening research standards and helping guide the next phase of the capability's evolution.
This is first and foremost a senior investor role, suited to an experienced direct equities professional with deep fundamental research expertise, sound commercial judgement and the leadership maturity to contribute at a high level in a sophisticated investment environment. It will also suit someone who is motivated by the opportunity to build on an already strong platform by introducing greater structure, consistency, discipline and risk oversight across research and portfolio processes over time.
You will contribute to thoughtful, high-quality investment discussions, while helping refine portfolio construction, research methodologies and the use of technology, data and modern tools in a way that strengthens decision-making without losing the fundamental investment philosophy that underpins the capability.
What You'll Do
* Provide leadership across Mutual Trust's Direct Equities capability spanning Australian and International Equities
* Work closely with the Partner - Research & Portfolio Management and Portfolio Managers to influence portfolio thinking and investment decisions
* Maintain a focused research coverage list and contribute high-quality investment insight
* Strengthen research quality, consistency and investment discipline across the team
* Evolve portfolio construction, research and monitoring frameworks over time
* Drive continuous improvement across process, operating rhythm and team ways of working
* Support the considered adoption of technology, data, dashboards and AI-enabled tools to improve efficiency, discipline and risk oversight
* Lead, mentor and develop a high-calibre team
* Contribute to key internal investment discussions and select client engagement opportunities
About You
You are a respected direct equities professional with the judgement, presence and leadership maturity to contribute at a senior level within a sophisticated investment environment. You bring deep fundamental research expertise, a disciplined and structured investment approach, and the credibility to influence portfolio thinking, research standards and team capability.
You bring:
* 12-15+ years' experience in direct equities investing across Australian and/or International Equities
* Deep fundamental research, financial modelling and valuation capability
* Strong commercial judgement and a clear, disciplined investment approach
* Experience influencing portfolio construction, risk oversight and investment governance
* A track record of lifting standards, strengthening consistency and embedding structure across investment processes
* Leadership experience, with the ability to mentor, develop and influence other investment professionals
* An openness to technology, data and AI-enabled tools, and the judgement to apply them appropriately in a fundamentally driven investment environment
* Strong communication skills and the credibility to engage confidently with senior internal and external stakeholders
* Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Accounting, Commerce or a related discipline
* CFA, MBA or Master of Finance qualifications highly regarded
