The ACT Emergency Services Agency (ACTESA) is seeking a dedicated and skilled Mechanical Technician to join our Workshop Mechanical Team. This is a critical role supporting the operational readiness of ACTESA’s emergency services, including Fire & Rescue, Ambulance, and the State Emergency Service. As a Mechanical Technician, you will provide specialist technical support across a diverse fleet of emergency service vehicles—including hybrid and diesel firefighting appliances, ambulances, and SES vehicles—as well as associated equipment and assets. Your work ensures that our frontline responders are equipped and ready to serve the ACT community at all times. Keep Our Fleet Running Smoothly Carry out maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting on a wide range of emergency service vehicles and equipment—everything from ambulances to firefighting appliances. Stay Smart with Systems Use digital tools and software to manage records, gather data, and ensure compliance with reporting requirements from the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator and ACT Government policies. Work Together, Inside and Out Collaborate with ESA teams, senior managers, other ACT Government directorates, and external partners to keep things running smoothly and efficiently. Eligibility/Other Requirements: A ‘C’ Class Driver’s licence is essential with the ability to obtain a Heavy Rigid licence. Certificate III in: Heavy Vehicle Mechanical Technology (preferred); OR Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology (desirable); OR Automotive Electric Vehicle Technology (desirable); OR Automotive Electrical Technology or Mobile Plant Technology may be considered. This position requires a Pre-employment Medical Check and may require ongoing health monitoring. To be eligible for permanent or temporary employment within the ACT Public Service (ACTPS) you must be an Australian citizen, a permanent resident or hold a valid work visa. If an officer no longer holds a visa that permits them to work in Australia, their employment with the ACT Public Service (ACTPS) will be terminated. Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required.
