Position Overview
The Trainee Service Manager plays a pivotal role in supporting the transition and alignment of services with the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). This hands-on, developmental role is suited to someone passionate about the disability sector, looking to build a strong foundation in service delivery, leadership, and team development within a registered NDIS provider organisation.
Under the guidance of the Operations Manager, the trainee will work towards effectively supporting service facilitators and ensuring quality support outcomes for participants. This role is an integral link between frontline service design and the strategic leadership of service operations.
Key Responsibilities
People Mentoring and Development
Working towards mentoring, developing, and supervising service facilitators.
Working towards providing coaching to promote quality, participant-centered support.
Supporting the development of services that uphold dignity and promote self- determination.
Progressing toward oversight of a wider team of support workers through service facilitators.
Service Delivery
Contributing to and promoting quality service delivery.
Participating in quality reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
Assisting in the allocation of referrals and supporting the design of personalised support plans.
Preparing and contributing to internal and external reporting requirements.
Relationships
Facilitating family and participant networks to encourage self-direction.
Participating in promotional activities to broaden service reach and awareness.
Developing rapport with participants, particularly those with complex needs.
Building and maintaining relationships with funders, agencies, community groups, and internal departments.
Supporting internal knowledge-sharing and mentoring across the organisation.
Planning and Strategic Development
Working with the Operations Manager on strategies for quality support and sustainable service growth.
Ensuring appropriate referral allocation to service facilitators.
Exploring and identifying new service opportunities.
Budget and Resource Management
Assisting with budget development and monitoring service delivery within budgetary limits.
Supporting efficient resource use, including support worker utilisation and travel costs.
Monitoring budgeted support and managing over-delivery in line with organisational parameters.
General Duties
Attending staff meetings and contributing to strategic and business planning initiatives.
Leading or contributing to internal projects aligned with service objectives.
Maintaining personal professional development and training compliance.
Skills, Attributes, and Experience
Essential – Working Towards
Understanding of community networks and NDIS legislation.
Knowledge of individualised assessment and person-centred planning.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Experience in designing flexible and holistic support plans.
Basic knowledge of financial planning and budgeting within the NDIS.
Proficiency in IT applications relevant to case and service management.
Strong organisational and time management skills.
Capacity to support change management and continuous improvement.
Awareness of current sector reforms affecting disability and community services.
Desirable
Working towards completion of a relevant tertiary qualification (e.g., Social Work, Community Services, Disability Support, or Management).
Conditions of Employment
Must hold or be eligible to obtain a National Police Certificate.
Must hold a valid driver’s license (car).
Must hold or be eligible to obtain an NDIS Worker Screening Check.
