We are seeking motivated Rail Worker Trainees to join our Rail Division. This is an excellent entry point into the rail and civil construction industry and offers structured training, on-the-job learning, and genuine long-term career progression.
About the Role
As a Rail Worker Trainee, you will learn foundational rail and civil construction skills while working alongside experienced crews. This role supports our rail maintenance, construction, and civil operations by undertaking hands-on labouring tasks, assisting operators, and contributing to daily worksite activities.
Under close supervision, you will work toward nationally recognised qualifications, including:
* Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure
* Certificate III in Civil Construction
This is a full-time, fixed-term traineeship. Flexibility to work statewide, including varied shifts (days, nights, weekends, and overtime), is essential.
Key Responsibilities
Rail Operations Support
* Assist with day-to-day track maintenance and rail construction activities.
* Support sleeper handling, ballast work, track preparation, and site setup.
* Perform labouring tasks including tamping, drainage works, and general track maintenance.
Civil Construction Support
* Participate in civil works such as trenching, levelling, drainage installation, earthworks, and site preparation.
* Carry out general labouring duties including digging, shovelling, lifting, carrying materials, and basic tool use.
* Assist small plant operators by preparing work areas and maintaining safe exclusion zones.
What We're Looking For
Essential Requirements
* Completion of Year 10 with basic literacy and numeracy.
* Basic ICT skills (digital forms, online training, timesheets).
* Physically fit and able to meet fitness-for-work requirements, including rail-specific medicals and manual labouring tasks.
* Construction Induction Card (White Card).
* Current driver's licence.
* Willingness to travel statewide and work away from home as required.
* Availability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends, and overtime.
* Ability to follow safety procedures and use hand tools under supervision.
Desirable
* Previous exposure to outdoor, construction, or labouring environments.
* Based in Launceston, Devonport, or surrounding areas.
