Sr. Mechanical Engineer
Establishing a human presence on Mars and beyond requires innovative mechanical engineering solutions. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer on our Crew Starship team, you will design and build critical spacecraft systems that ensure the safety and success of future astronauts.
This role involves full hardware ownership, from initial design requirements and concepts to prototype development, qualification, and integration. You will work closely with interdisciplinary teams to develop next-generation structures, mechanisms, or interior systems for Crew Starship vehicles.
Main Responsibilities:
* Design and develop novel spacecraft systems that meet mission requirements
* Collaborate with engineers from various disciplines to integrate hardware with Starship systems
* Lead design reviews with suppliers and customers to ensure technical excellence
* Negotiate complex trade studies to optimize cost, schedule, safety, and performance
* Be accountable for project delivery timelines and exemplify technical expertise
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
* 5+ years of experience in mechanical design and analysis (internship experience qualifies)
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
* Leadership experience on an engineering or project team
* Strong ability to use data and analysis to make fast, informed decisions
* Experience with structures, mechanisms, or interior design in aerospace or aviation industries
* Ability to perform trade studies using first principles and engineering fundamentals
* Experienced in NX
* Solid understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
* Demonstrated understanding of structural analysis and failure modes of complex mechanical systems
* Technical knowledge of human spacecraft systems and operations
* Excellent communication skills and ability to present recommendations effectively
