Location: There are seven (7) Fire Communications Centres across Queensland.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is responsible for ensuring the safety of people and property across Queensland through prevention, preparation, response, and recovery activities across various emergencies. It includes Fire and Rescue Service, Rural Fire Service, and State Emergency Service, supporting volunteer groups providing emergency response.
The functions of QFES are unique, delivering fire, rescue, emergency, and disaster management services through a single agency, fostering collaboration for improved community safety outcomes.
Purpose of the role
The Fire Communications centres (FireComs) handle emergency call taking, dispatching on-scene communications, coordinating QFES resources, monitoring fire alarms, processing inquiries, updating data, and collating reports and documentation. Staff are trained in incident management, hazardous materials, and technical rescue, and can be deployed nationally and internationally.
Key requirements
Mandatory requirements
* Hold a valid Blue Card from Blue Card Services, with evidence
* Australian Citizenship, New Zealand Citizenship, or Australian Resident Status
* Have or be able to obtain Certificate III in Public Safety (Emergency Communications Centre Operations)
* Complete the ‘Communications Training and Professional Development Program (CTPDP)’ at the prescribed level
* Typing speed of 45 wpm with 95% accuracy
* Have or be able to obtain Apply First Aid and CPR Certificates
Your key accountabilities
* Accept incoming emergency calls and inquiries, collecting relevant information
* Assess risks and resource availability to determine appropriate responses
* Dispatch and coordinate resources, notify other organizations as per directives
* Maintain incident information in the dispatch system, monitor progress, support operational staff
* Complete post-incident administration, reports, and information sharing
* Monitor alarms and respond according to protocols
* Mentor and guide new staff
* Contribute to system and procedure improvements
* Identify and report system faults, liaise with technical teams
* Undertake administrative and project duties as assigned
