About the roleThe Right to Information Team is responsible for overseeing SafeWork NSW's statutory responsibilities under the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA Act). The GIPA Act establishes a proactive, more open approach to gaining access to government information in New South Wales. The team operates in a high volume, fast paced and frontline structured environment, to facilitate the review and determination of applications made under the GIPA Act. This is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive, well-established team, who are passionate about applying the relevant legislations and promoting open government.
Your responsibilities will include
* Review, assess, and determine applications for access to government information under the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009.
* Apply relevant provisions of the GIPA Act and associated policies to maintain transparency and uphold statutory obligations.
* Effectively manage and resolve complex or sensitive requests, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
* Support proactive disclosure of information and foster an environment of openness and accountability within SafeWork NSW.
* Operate efficiently in a high-volume, frontline setting while delivering quality outcomes and meeting deadlines.
* Work closely with internal stakeholders and external applicants to clarify requirements and provide guidance on access processes.
About you
* We are looking for a highly motivated individual with excellent attention to detail.
* The position holder will have the ability to make and write strong, and legally sound, autonomous decisions. In particular, the position holder will have in-depth experience applying the GIPA Act, or in-depth experience applying a similar legislation that facilitates the access of government held information.
* Thrive in a high volume and time pressured environment, where competing priorities must be managed effectively.
* Aptitude to deliver to tight deadlines and be flexible and resilient in an environment of changing and competing priorities.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, including proven ability to write decisions based on legislation, and to tailor communication messaging effectively to different audiences and communication of emerging and potentially contentious issues.
