Principal Project Engineer WA - Full-time Permanent
PERSOL is partnering with a major energy provider to recruit a Principal Project Engineer who will lead the technical direction of transmission projects across WA. In this role, you'll contribute to the development of future‑focused energy infrastructure supporting the state's transition to a low‑carbon network.
Roles and Responsibilities
Provide day‑to‑day technical guidance and coaching to a team of Project Engineers, ensuring they are equipped to deliver complex substation and transmission work scopes.
Lead early‑stage engineering activities, including feasibility assessments, concept development, and FEED planning for major network projects.
Set and maintain high engineering standards by developing and refining internal design frameworks, templates, scopes, and technical deliverables.
Act as a key technical contact for customer connection projects – supporting negotiations, validating proposed solutions, and ensuring compliance with network requirements.
Oversee and sign off on engineering outputs delivered both in‑house and by external design partners, ensuring accuracy, quality, and alignment with project objectives.
Work collaboratively across engineering, operations, planning, and commercial teams to provide informed, practical advice throughout the project life cycle.
Take responsibility for formal technical approvals, ensuring all designs, reports, and drawings meet regulatory, safety, and organisational expectations.
About You
Deep experience in substation and high‑voltage transmission design, ideally gained within a utility or similar complex infrastructure environment.
Robust knowledge of how electricity networks operate, including protection, control, switching, and broader system constraints.
Ability to produce and review conceptual and detailed engineering designs, and provide trusted advice on a wide range of connection scenarios.
Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent), with professional recognition or eligibility for Engineers Australia membership.
Confidence in making informed engineering decisions where information may be incomplete or where multiple solutions are viable.
Demonstrated capability in guiding multidisciplinary project teams and managing engagement with consultants, contractors, and customers.
Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and influence outcomes across multiple stakeholder groups.
