ANMF NT Branch Position Statement
To engage with, advocate for and empower nurses, midwives, and carers to maximise their influence over their professions, their working environments, and the health care system for the benefit of their professions and the broader community.
Overview
The Australian Nursing & Midwifery Federation NT Branch (ANMF NT) is a union who undertakes advocates and facilitates the industrial and professional aspect within the organisation for nurses, midwives, students, and aged care workers in public & private health sectors within the Northern Territory. The ANMF NT seeks to promote and defend the industrial, professional, social, political, and democratic interests of approximately 3,500 members. We currently have 9 employees including organisers, membership, and administrative personnel.
Role Description:
1.To provide effective administrative support to Branch Secretary and Organisers contributing to the efficient operation of daily office requirements
2. To provide identified information to ANMF NT Branch members and the public as required.
3. To perform duties and support to the Branch Secretary as required.
4. To perform the role of a front office receptionist/admin and represent the ANMF NT to the membership and public in a professional and courteous manner.
5. To provide assistance with payments if the Membership Officer or Recruitment Officer unavailable
6. To be able to work independently, with also working within the team in the office. To be proactive, assess a task, that needs to be fulfilled, plan, complete task, without being prompted to undertake task.
Accountability:
* The position is accountable to the Branch Secretary or her delegate, to meet the requirements of the role description.
Terms and Conditions of Employment:
* FULL TIME or PART-TIME – 30-40 hours p/week (5 days Mon-Fri). This can be negotiated with the CEO | Branch Secretary.
* Can be a previous nurse/midwife
* As described in the ‘ANMF NT Branch Staff Conditions of Employment 2025-2028’.
* Salary in line with NTPS AO4Y3 salary, plus super, plus salary-sacrificing & generous conditions. Changes to classification level may be renegotiated with the Branch Secretary, depending on your previous employment experience.
* As per ‘NT Public Sector General Enterprise Agreement 2025-2029’

* A period of 6 months’ probation, with the appointment to permanent employment of the position will be subject to satisfactory completion of probationary period.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Reception/Telephones
* Answering telephones / direct incoming calls to appropriate staff
* Taking accurate and concise messages and forward them to the appropriate staff member
* Checking on membership status of members seeking advice
* Responding to enquiries as appropriate
* Direct incoming visitors
* Man the main correspondence email address, to the office, navigate emails to relevant worker in office.
File/Information management
* Monitor and maintain office file and information management system as required
Branch Council Meetings
* Assist in the preparation of Branch Council meeting papers, agendas, collating, scanning & emailing.
Branch Secretary assistance
* Provide assistance to the Branch Secretary in the monitoring of incoming and outgoing information and daily diary commitments.
* Provide personal assistant support to the Branch Secretary, including filing of papers, electronic filing & making of relevant folders.
Membership
* Responding to Membership enquiries/queries where appropriate
* Assist the membership officer as required
* Know the membership database (iMIS) so you may assist the Membership Officer or Recruitment Officer in their absence to maintain membership database as required.
NT Branch Promotional
Material
* Organise quotes for various promotional material as directed by and for signing by the Branch Secretary
* Organise printing & ordering of office stationery, envelopes etc., as necessary.
Mail
* As required, collect, record, and distribute daily incoming and outgoing mail.
* As required by the Branch Organiser, assist with the distribution of membership information via the NT Job Delegate network.
* Share in the distribution of surveys, membership forms, flyers, promotional material and information related material etc.
Scan
* Scan and save documents into the network system
* Scan and attach documents to the membership database
Other Requirements
* Act as administration support for member training courses, seminars, conferences & professional days.
Office Maintenance
* Organise any necessary maintenance and obtain quotes and prices of general equipment when necessary
* Monitor and maintain stocks of office forms and general office stationery – including photocopying stock
* Electronic filing for the Branch Secretary / CEO
General
* Maintain general office equipment
* Participate in the orderly operation of the office and related cleaning needs and procedures.
* Participate in Staff meetings – taking & writing of minutes
