An opportunity is available for a
Water Design Engineer (Mechanical)
to join a well-established engineering team supporting a
Tier 1 mining company
. This role suits an engineer who enjoys hands-on design work, problem solving, and contributing to practical water infrastructure solutions across mining operations.
The Opportunity
You'll be involved in the design and delivery of water infrastructure projects, working alongside project engineers, operations, and construction teams. The focus is on producing high-quality, buildable designs while supporting projects from early definition through to construction and commissioning.
What You'll Be Doing
Designing water infrastructure including pipelines, pump stations, tanks, ponds, and borefield systems
Completing hydraulic assessments and supporting design decisions
Producing clear, practical design documentation for construction and procurement
Supporting cost estimates, material take-offs, and equipment selection
Working closely with stakeholders to ensure designs meet operational and site requirements
Providing engineering support during construction, including responding to technical queries
Reviewing vendor information and supporting procurement activities
Ensuring designs align with Australian standards, project requirements, and industry best practice
What We're Looking For
Degree-qualified Mechanical Engineer (preferred) or Civil/Chemical Engineer
Around 3-5+ years' experience in water, pipelines, or mechanical systems design
Experience within mining, heavy industry, or engineering consultancy environments
Exposure to mine dewatering or site-based water systems highly regarded
Strong communication skills and the ability to work across disciplines
Comfortable working independently and managing competing priorities
Experience with Visio and ArcMap advantageous
Willingness to travel to site occasionally for short visits
Full Australian working rights required
What's On Offer
Contract role paying $65 – $85 per hour
12-month initial term with potential to extend
