About The Role

Pacific National is seeking a highly skilled Technical Writer to develop, review and maintain technical documentation that supports safe, compliant and effective maintenance.

In this role, you will produce clear and accurate maintenance manuals, work instructions, inspection regimes, standard operating procedures and other essential technical documents. Working closely with subject matter experts, engineering, maintenance and quality teams, you will ensure documentation is fit‐for‐purpose, compliant with rail safety legislation and aligned with Pacific National's maintenance and engineering standards.

What You'll Be Doing

Research, develop and author clear technical documentation in collaboration with engineering and operational SMEs. Translate complex engineering and maintenance information into structured, accessible content. Edit, format and standardise documents to meet approved templates, style guides and specifications. Manage periodic reviews, coordinate stakeholder input, and resolve feedback before approval. Proofread, edit and verify documentation to ensure accuracy, clarity and technical correctness. Control publication processes including versioning, approvals and release via Assetnet/SharePoint. Support audit activities, document compliance reviews and corrective action processes. Identify documentation gaps arising from incidents, audits or operational changes. Respond to technical queries relating to standards, procedures and documentation. Support continuous improvement of documentation frameworks and quality processes.

What You'll Bring

Qualification in Technical Writing or Communications (highly regarded). Relevant trade qualification beneficial. Minimum 10 years' experience in a similar technical writing role. Experience in the rail industry, with strong understanding of technical documentation. Advanced capability in interpreting complex engineering concepts and translating them into user‐friendly documentation. Strong knowledge of documentation authoring, configuration, production and release processes. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Word) and SharePoint. Experience in document control within a regulated or quality‐managed environment. Working knowledge of relevant rail standards (AAR, RISSB, ROA). Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with technical and operational stakeholders.
