As the business continues to evolve, so do the opportunities within it. We are now seeking a hands-on, reliable, and proactive Maintenance Officer to join the Centre Management team.
About the Role
Working as part of the team at Burnside Village and reporting to the Head of Operations, you will play a key role in ensuring Burnside Village continues to deliver an exceptional experience for customers and retailers through the highest standards of property maintenance and presentation.
This role offers consistent daytime hours during the week, typically 6:30-8:30 am–3.30/5:30 pm, one Saturday 9-5pm, Sunday 10-5pm & Thursday 3.30-9pm in the three-week roster with regular rostered days off so you can plan ahead and maintain a healthy work–life balance. Being part of a wider team ensures that the schedule rotates fairly.
Tasks and Duties
* Perform maintenance across all areas, including public spaces, carparks, plant rooms, rooftops, and more
* Complete general repairs – lighting, plumbing, painting, plastering, welding, and graffiti removal
* Operate tools and equipment safely, in line with WH&S guidelines
* Identify and report maintenance issues and safety risks
* Support contractors and internal departments
* Maintain clean, well-organised workspaces
* Respond professionally to BMS issues from retailers
* Uphold The Cohen Group's values of integrity, honesty, and customer focus
* Work closely with tenants and contractors, maintaining strong relationships and delivering excellent customer service
* Coordinate access and provide assistance to external trades and contractors as needed
* Undertake basic safety inspections and report hazards or risks promptly
* Perform preventative maintenance tasks
Skills and Experience
* Proven experience in maintenance or handyman work (retail/commercial preferred)
* Trade qualifications are desirable but not essential; a hands-on, common-sense approach matters more
* Strong attention to detail and a reliable, can-do attitude
* Good communication skills and professional presentation
* Solid WH&S knowledge and confidence using tools and equipment
* Team player with initiative and pride in delivering high standards
* Comfortable with technology – basic computer skills for logging jobs and tracking time
* Professional, friendly manner – representing the company and dealing with tenants
* Physically capable, reliable, and enthusiastic, with plenty of energy
