We have a leadership opportunity to join the SafeCommunities team as Team Leader Local Laws - Animal Management on a permanent full time basis.
About the Role
As Team Leader Local Laws - Animal Management, you will provide leadership, support and guidance to Local Laws Officers – Animal Management in interpreting and applying relevant legislation and contribute to the maintenance and improvement of residential amenity, community safety and environmental standards.
The successful applicant will:
- Provide advice and assistance to members of the community and general public in regard to policies and legislation governing the functions of the municipal laws section and to foster a cooperative and mutually beneficial relationship using education, negotiation and consultation to resolve problems.
- Lead the operations of the Animal Management team, including staff supervision, finance and corporate monitoring and reporting as required.
- Provide leadership, support and guidance to Local Laws Officers – Animal Management in interpreting and applying relevant legislation.
- Establish systems, procedures and programs that will promote best practice.
You’ll need:
• Post‑secondary training to Certificate IV in Animal Control & Regulation or equivalent and/or relevant experience in law enforcement.
• Proven ability to conduct investigations, instigate appropriate enforcement action and, where necessary, conduct interviews and prepare briefs of evidence and present evidence in court of law.
• Ability to understand Court procedures and give evidence regarding a prosecution for offences in the Magistrates Court and at VCAT or both.
Please Note – As part of this role you will be required to have the ability to work after hours/on call shifts as required.
