Join to apply for the Locum Consultant in Acute Medicine role at Candino CA.
6 month Fixed Term post. As part of a major investment programme at Ipswich Hospital, an agreement has been given for a significant investment to deliver a transformative model for management of inpatient medical and older persons care. This includes a strengthened 7-day consultant working, a strengthened GIM rota to improve workload balance, and enhanced post-take support.
Innovation in patient care and service delivery aims to ensure the right patient is seen by the right clinician at the right time (7 days per week), with patients managed from the outset on the most appropriate ward for their condition. There is early access to specialist advice and an overall goal to deliver greatly improved quality of care while supporting a sustainable set of consultant job plans.
The department works as a sub-department within the Division of Medicine at Ipswich Site. The 7 current consultants operate in the Emergency Assessment Unit (EAU) within a multi-disciplinary team, with access to contemporary facilities and equipment. The aim is to maintain an efficient and friendly service for the local population while developing acute services in line with evolving emergency care strategies.
The appointee will work as a consultant in Acute Medicine and will collaborate with the Departments of Speciality Medicine, Surgery and Diagnostic Imaging to provide a comprehensive assessment process for all medical emergencies. Close liaison with other Departments and allied health professionals within the EAU is essential, with good communication skills emphasized.
East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust is undergoing a £150 million development programme. Over the next five years, the trust will change the landscape of care for the 1 million people served in Suffolk and North East Essex. At the Ipswich hospital site, a state-of-the-art Urgent Treatment Centre is being developed, co-located with a new Emergency Department opening in Summer 2024. Other new and redeveloped units include the Acute Medical Same Day Emergency Care unit, Acute Respiratory Care Unit, Surgical Assessment Unit, and a Frailty Assessment Base linked with the virtual ward programme and community services.
The trust has identified Epic as the preferred Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system to support clinical pathways and processes.
We have a simple philosophy: Time Matters. Time matters for patients, families and staff, to reduce unnecessary stress and allow more time to care and utilise skills.
The appointee will have a specific role in acute assessment, triage and management of all patients in the EAU, working with senior therapists and nurses to assess and meet patients’ needs, and to support ED Performance indicators. They will supervise and train assigned EAU junior staff and maintain databases and performance records of admissions and assessments, acting as a resource for information. They will work closely with colleagues in all departments and contribute to teaching of medical students and junior staff attached to the department.
