2. The Role at Macca's
The Retail Manager is responsible for the overall leadership and performance of the McDonald's restaurant. This is a hands-on, people-focused leadership role that combines operational excellence with genuine care for team members and customers.
The role requires a strong on-floor presence, particularly during busy service periods, working alongside the team to keep the restaurant running smoothly. At the same time, the Retail Manager is accountable for planning, compliance, training, and performance outcomes that ensure the restaurant meets McDonald's operational and brand standards.
This position is about more than managing a restaurant. It is about building a great team, creating a positive workplace culture, and delivering the Macca's experience every customer expects.
3. Key Responsibilities
The Retail Manager is responsible for the following core functions:
* Leading the day-to-day operations of the restaurant across kitchen, front counter, drive-thru, and delivery platforms
* Providing visible, hands-on leadership on the restaurant floor to support team members during service
* Recruiting, onboarding, training, and developing crew members, trainers, and shift managers in line with McDonald's training systems
* Creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive workplace that aligns with McDonald's Code of Conduct and people values
* Ensuring food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety standards are consistently met and maintained
* Planning staff rosters to meet business needs while managing labour efficiency and compliance
* Monitoring customer service standards and responding constructively to customer feedback
* Managing inventory, stock rotation, and ordering to ensure product availability and minimise waste
* Overseeing cash handling, security procedures, and loss prevention controls
* Reviewing sales results, labour performance, and operational KPIs, and implementing improvement actions
* Delivering McDonald's promotions, system updates, and operational initiatives accurately and on time
* Maintaining restaurant presentation, cleanliness, and equipment standards at all times
* Communicating effectively with the licensee, support teams, and suppliers as required

5. Qualifications and Experience
Essential or Highly Relevant:
* A relevant Diploma-level qualification (AQF Level 5), such as Diploma of Retail Management or Diploma of Hospitality Management, or an equivalent qualification
* Alternatively, a minimum of three years of relevant full-time experience in retail or quick service restaurant management may substitute for formal qualifications, consistent with regulatory requirements
* Previous experience within a McDonald's or comparable branded quick service environment is highly regarded
