Overview
Director Fixed Income & Interest Rate Strategy at Commonwealth Bank. The role is based in Sydney or New Zealand.
Commonwealth Bank has a leading team of economists and strategists providing insights, forecasts and updates on domestic, international, sustainable, commodity, and financial economic trends. The Global Economic & Markets Research (GEMR) team publishes daily, weekly and monthly reports, podcasts and ad-hoc notes. The Interest Rate Strategist will develop and communicate CBA's views on Australia, New Zealand and global bond and interest rate markets to internal stakeholders and external clients.
Responsibilities
* Independently develop and communicate interest rate trade ideas and provide relevant, regular and timely notes with minimal supervision.
* Cover Australian and NZ OIS and swap markets, BBSW, BKBM, SOFR, domestic and cross-currency basis swaps, options, and relevant regulatory and banking issues as required.
* Lead provision of fixed income ideas, including bonds, semis, agencies, and SSAs as appropriate.
* Utilise and support further development of CBA market database and quantitative analysis (QDAT) where applicable.
* Liaise with Fixed Income & Rates Trading, DCM and Sales teams in line with compliance and regulatory guidelines.
* Pro-active marketing with relevant client base, particularly balance sheets & institutional investors.
* Adhere to CBA policies including confidentiality, media, privacy, and all compliance-related protocols including the bank's Research Procedures.
* Provide timely strategy views and advice to add value for CBA's clients and internal Sales and Trading staff.
* Travel domestically and internationally to meet and present strategy to the CBA Group's clients as required.
* Raise the profile of CBA with key institutional, corporate and investor clients.
Qualifications & Skills
* Strong in-depth knowledge of global financial markets, particularly Australia, New Zealand, and US bond, option and interest rate markets and products.
* Strong understanding of regulatory, fiscal and central bank policies and their implementation.
* Analytical with strong problem solving, numerical and verbal reasoning skills.
* Ability to take responsibility for ongoing distribution of notes & views when Head of Rates Research is away.
* Strong influencing, written & verbal communication skills, including potential media exposure.
* Team-oriented with the ability to work independently.
* Commitment to comply with regulations, policies and processes.
* Tertiary qualifications in finance, commerce, mathematics, or economics (preferably honours or above).
* AFMA accreditation or equivalent preferred; CFA, Masters of Finance or MBA desirable.
